3D Technology Checklist This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires: A DisplayFirst, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession. A SourceYour display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system. 3D Content3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game. 3D GlassesFor now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands. HDMI CableTo connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality. If you want to get more information about 3D, shop our 3D products, watch videos, or interact with other customers, we invite you to visit 3D 101, our customer center about everything 3D. Internet-Ready Television Internet-ready TVs use your broadband connection to deliver dynamic content, whether it's streaming video from Netflix, new music from Pandora, or a quick glance at today's weather forecast. Although there is overlap, each manufacturer offers a unique bundle of free or paid services, including streaming video and music, social networking apps, online photo galleries, news and financial updates, weather info, sports scores, and a variety of other smartphone-like applications. Manufacturers continue to add new content to their offerings, keeping customers current through firmware updates, and making a bit of research a prudent step in your buying decision. Learn more about Internet TVs, how they work, what services are offered by different manufacturers, and exactly what you'll need to get started at our Internet TV 101 customer center. The WX800 Cinema Series 3DTV combines elegant design, 3D-ready LED picture quality, and a wide array of available Internet content to create a new dimension in quality and style. For real 3D video, just pair the WX800 with Toshiba Active Shutter 3D glasses, and enjoy Blu-ray 3D discs, along with a growing amount of broadcast content. 3D footage is shot with two special cameras spaced apart 2.5 inches to mimic our eyes. These state-of-the-art glasses (sold separately) create a dazzling 3D effect by opening and closing lenses 120 times per second. This requires a television iwth exceptional video features, and that of course will benefit all your 2D viewing. And while the WX800 delivers 3D video, its own elegant, ultra-thin design approaches 2D. The choice of 46-inch or 54.6-inch screen sizes make Toshiba 3D TVs perfect for building a big, beautiful home theater. Even the stand looks great. In back, the WX800 features an Ethernet port, along with built-in 802.11a/b/g/n wireless networking. This lets you access Toshiba's Net TV content, for streaming video from services like Netflix, social networking with Twitter and Facebook, Internet radio from Pandora, and a whole lot more, for entertainment beyond the included three dimensions. Finally, minimizing their televisions' impact on the planet--and your pocketbook--is a concern for Toshiba. LED backlighting is one of the most power-efficient backlight technologies, and with features like a brightness sensor to automatically adjust backlighting to suit ambient light, this HDTV is designed to run with only the power it needs. It meets the strict ENERGY STAR energy efficiency guidelines set forth by the EPA and US Department of Energy. Pair the WX800 with Toshiba Active Shutter 3D glasses to enjoy broadcast and Blu-ray 3D content. Toshiba's Net TV content is available with just a few clicks of the remote--includes Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Pandora, YouTube and many more. 46WX800U Features ClearFrame 240 Get awesome viewing for quick-action sports and other entertainment with a 240Hz anti-blur effect for enhanced picture quality and fast-motion video. ClearFrame quadruples the original frame rate from 60 frames per second (fps) to 240fps for the smoothest, blur-free picture available. PixelPure 5G With a 14-bit internal digital video processor, gradation levels are increased, creating smoother, clearer images. LED TV Experience a superior picture and higher Contrast Ratio with Edge LED backlight technology, producing brighter whites and deeper blacks than traditional CCFL backlight televisions. Built-in Wi-Fi This television can access your home wireless network without the need for a wired connection. Toshiba's Net TV personalized Internet content is available with just a few clicks of the remote, with Yahoo! TV Widgets. Simply visit the Widget Gallery on your TV and choose from a vast selection that includes Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Pandora, YouTube and many more. Digital Tuner Integrated digital tuning (8VSB ATSC and QAM) eliminates the need for a separate digital converter set-top box (in most cases). Toshiba has taken steps to reduce the impact of their HDTVs, with a power-conscious design and full ENERGY STAR qualification. An attractive, ultra-thin cabinet design makes Toshiba 3D TVs perfect for building a big, beautiful home theater--even the stand looks great. Great Expandability and Convenience Build that entertainment center with four HDMI inputs and Toshiba InstaPort for fast switching between them. And because Toshiba 3D TVs are DLNA-certified, you'll also be able to work all suitably equipped components--receivers, home media servers and more--using a single remote control. Home theater without the headache. Stunning Sound Toshiba 3D TVs don't skimp on audio, either. They come with built-in stereo speakers, plus advanced audio technologies including Audyssey EQ to equalize sound for the entire room, Dolby Volume to maintain loudness as you change channels or encounter blaring commercials, plus Dolby Digital Plus, which delivers full audio potential from Blu-ray discs, HD broadcasts, along with streamed and downloaded media. AutoView To give you the best entertainment around the clock, the image on your TV should be bright enough for high-contrast viewing during the day, but not so intense that it strains your eyes at night. Making those adjustments yourself can be a hassle, so Toshiba's AutoView takes care of it for you. Green Engineering Though powerfully entertaining, LED HD TVs are built with a power-conscious design. Each is ENERGY STAR-qualified, so you can reduce your impact while upgrading your television. Gaming Mode Gaming Mode supercharges your playing by reducing game controller delay, allowing the video signal to bypass select internal TV circuitry, shortening signal-to-screen time. Perfect for modern gaming systems. Media Player This TV allows you to enjoy photos, movies or music files stored on a USB device or SD Memory Card. You can also enjoy photos, movies, or music files directly from your PC by connecting the TV to your home network. DLNA certification means the TV can also access DLNA-enabled devices such as network storage drives, etc. 46WX800U Select Specifications Video Screen Size: 46-Inch Diagonal Widescreen Display Type: LED Resolution: 1080p Native Display Resolution: 1920 x 1080 Refresh Rate: ClearFrame 240Hz Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 7,000,000:1 Tuner: NTSC/ATSC/QAM in the Clear Media Formats Video: MPEG2 PS, MPEG2 TS, AVCHD, MP4 Music: MP3, MP4 (AAC), LPCM Photo: JPEG Internet Capability: Net TV DLNA Certified: Yes 802.11 Wi-Fi Capable Yes Inputs/Outputs HDMI: 4 Component Video (Y/PB/PR): 1 PC Input (15-Pin D-Sub): 1 USB Ports: 2 Ethernet Port: 1 Digital Audio Output 1 (Output) Weight and Dimensions Dimensions (WxHxD): 43.00 x 26.11 x 1.15 Inches (43.00 x 28.94 x 11.34 Inches With Stand) Weight: 42.11 lbs. Outstanding By cdew002 SELECTING: I was in the market for a new TV, but I had no intention of getting a 3D TV until I saw the sale Amazon had that included the Bluray player and glasses for $1299. Too good to pass up since I was going to spend close to that on a regular LED/LCD TV anyway. There were a few sales on Samsungs and Panasonics, but I chose Toshiba. The TV being replaced was a 3.5 year old 50" HD Toshiba DLP. That was a great product, so I decided to exercise a little brand loyalty. Additionally, because Toshiba was one of the last "big" manufacturers to release their 3D TV, I figured they would probably have the best picture since they had more time to perfect their technology. That may be incorrect logic, but it worked for me. There were almost no reviews when I bought the TV, so I kept my fingers crossed. SHIPPING: I waited like a little kid for this thing to get to me - even though I got it in 5 days, it seemed like forever! The box had a huge hole in it (looked like it had been kicked) and the back of the TV had a small dent. I signed for it with the acknowledgement that it was dented so if it didn't work, I could send it back. These things are shipped via freight, and freight is known to be rough on packages. The dent didn't bother me (provided it worked), so I took it home. SETUP: Got home, took it out of the box. This thing is skinny! It is also surprisingly heavy (not overly cumbersome, but it is heavier than it looks). The base attaches like it should - pretty self explanatory. Got it hooked up and turned on. The TV walked me through the setup as it should. The picture was great - I don't have cable (I know, I know), but the OTA stations looked wonderful. It was a very clean look. The response time changing channels was very quick (it was somewhat slower on the DLP TV). The options Toshiba has to change the picture are limitless - I am still tinkering with the picture (although the way it is set up out of the box is great). 3D SETUP: I bought A Christmas Carol, Open Season, and Monsters Vs. Aliens (off eBay) in 3D. Setup is identical to a regular DVD player, except I believe you need to have a 1.4 HDMI cable (not a standard HDMI) to transmit the 3D image. I wish they mentioned this up front, but luckily I did some research before the TV arrived and ordered an Amazon cable for $7. Not a big deal, but I would have been pretty irritated if I would have had to make a trip to BestBuy to buy a $50 cable. For the glasses, you just pull the clear battery saver tab (you'll see it if you don't know what I'm talking about) and you're good to go. You can tell when the glasses are on because the light allowed through the glasses changes. I believe I had to change the TV to auto-detect 3D, but a message pops up and tells you what to do once it sees a 3D disc, so that's all there is to it. STANDARD/BLURAY PICTURE: Fantastic. There's not much more to it. It is a great picture with incredible detail. I thought the old HD DLP Toshiba had a great picture, but I don't know if I'll be able to watch it again because of the improvement this TV is over that one. Bluray really did blow me away on this TV. There are countless adjustments you can make to the picture, which is nice (doubt I'll use them, but it's more of a comfort thing). 3D PICTURE: Didn't know what to expect. After I ordered the 46", I began reading that you needed a bigger screen to appreciate 3D and got worried. Luckily, this wasn't true! The picture is much more "crisp" than in the theaters. When I first put on "A Christmas Carol," all I could do was smile. I had read a lot of blurbs here and there regarding the issues people were having with 3D TVs making "ghost" and "double" images. It actually did happen during one scene of "A Christmas Carol," but I'm not really sure why (it was actually just a character's nose had a ghost image during one scene), and it didn't happen at any
