Works with Samsung Blu-Ray better than expected By HLee jpn My wife and I were hesitant in ordering this but our daughter recommended it. It wasn't difficult to hook up and worked as expected. The major hurdle was figuring out what it allowed: linking the LED flat screen and Samsung Blu-Ray to our secured WiFi network. With our daughter, we had it going in just a few minutes and had far more options available that we would have thought. There isn't much that we can add about this wireless unit except that it is fairly transparent to the system and opens up a much large media network. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Works Perfectly By Mark E. Wilson I was a little skeptical regarding this purchase, but I was wrong. This LINKSTICK seems to work perfectly. When I moved into my new home, the modem and router are upstairs, the TV is down. Running a data cable would be doable, but painful. This was the easy way out and it works great! Just like being hardwired again! No issues. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. It is much simpler than opening the CPU to install a wireless card. I bought this for a WD TV Live Media Player wireless connctn and it started to stream right away after entering the router's security keys; I didn't have to do anything else. Turned the player on; when I saw it was ready I plugged the stick in and the rest you have to go by the WD plyr instructions. Thanks D-Link & Amazon for such a good price. 21 of 24 people found the following review helpful. No Longer Works with WD Live TV By Phil Meek I know I should have read more carefully, but the version that is shipping from Amazon right now does NOT work with the WD Live TV device. The version listed on WD's site says it has to be the 1.0 firmware, but Amazon is currently shipping the 1.30 firmware. I'm sure that makes it a cheaper / more stable solution for computers, but it means that it doesn't work at all for the WD device. I tried it in my computer, and it works like a charm. But when connected to the WD device, I get no lights on the adapter or UI options within the WD interface to allow me to use wireless. See all 92 customer reviews...

Potter Just got this all-in-one Bluray theater today. In general it's a nice bargain (especially at the GoldBox deal from Thanksgiving). I use it in our Living Room to replace the TV speakers, so the sound is definitely an improvement. I probably wouldn't use this in a true "home theater" since the subwoofer isn't powered. But for general Bluray listening in the Living Room and for Netflix streaming, it sounds just fine. It does what it claims and has a lot of good streaming options (Netflix, Pandora, etc). Picture quality is excellent. Bluray player is similar to Sony's BDP-S370 player. However, unlike all of the reviews (on the Internet) of this unit that I read before purchasing, this unit does NOT have DLNA support for streaming music from your local network servers. In fact on page 35 of the included manual in the section "Playing files stores on a DLNA server" it specifically says: "Except for BDV-E370 U.S. models". This is extremely annoying. It's obvious to me that this device *used* to have this feature, which is why all of the older reviews mention it. My guess is that it was removed in a software update. Yes, I did the network update and now it says that no other update is available. I didn't check to see if DLNA was available before the update. The related setup page for DLNA called "Connection Server Settings" in the "Network Settings" screen is also missing. Unless you get a really good price deal on this, I'd recommend the BDV-E570 instead which has the DLNA support and also includes the WiFi adapter. I had a wired Ethernet, so the adapter wasn't a big deal. But if I had known that this unit really didn't support DLNA, I probably would not have bought it. Now that it's already installed and working, I'll probably keep it. Maybe we can convince Sony to put DLNA support back into this device. It's obviously just a software issue and I'm annoyed at Sony for not including this and am annoyed at the reviews that all say it has it when it doesn't. But that's why I'm giving only 4 stars. Update #1: Since there is no HDMI input, to hook up your cable box you need to connect the digital audio output of the cable box to the input on the E370. You use your TV to switch the video and use the E370 to switch the audio. The only problem with this is that the Sony E370 does not support discrete remote codes for the different audio inputs. It only has a "NextInput" command. So you'll need a smart remote (like a Harmony) that can remember what input is currently selected so that it knows how many "NextInputs" to send to the E370 to get it to the correct channel. Update #2: (12/17/2010) Just installed the latest v735 firmware and still no DLNA support :( Update #3: (2/11/2011) With the latest firmware update M04.R.752 I can confirm that DLNA support has now been added to this device. It automatically sees my Windows 7 computer on the local network and can play music and see photos. As others have reported, there still isn't any way to "shuffle" a play list, but that's pretty minor. I would now rate this item as 5 STARS. Thanks to Sony for finally updating this device to what it was advertised. 24 of 25 people found the following review helpful. $239 Very Well Spent By Jamie I ordered this on the Thanksgiving Goldbox deal. I received it one week later. The system was packaged very nicely and was easy to unbox and setup the system. I hooked up my DVR cable box into the Sat/Cable (Digital Coaxial input) jack. I hooked up my Playstation 3 into the TV (Digital Optical input) jack. (not into my television, but into the input named "TV" on the unit) When I try each source, it tells me on the unit's front LCD screen that I'm getting Dolby Digital. Using the unit's blu-ray, I watched the movie "Stealth". I must say it was like a whole new experience. I could hear those fighter jets

This adapter does 802.11 a/b/g/n and operates at 2.4GHz and 5.2GHz. All you do is plug it into the rear USB port and it just works without any sign of it installing itself. Boot time was not affected by having it plugged in. The interface for the adapter is pretty decent and it was nice that apart from the normal open, SSID and signal strength indicators, it shows the AP's capabilities (i.e. a/b/g/n). I only used it to test but am using only the wired connection. A short word on streaming video. If you can help it then please, please, please use at least a wired Fast Ethernet connection because you'll be able to get consistent and reliable bandwidth. The next important thing is to make sure you have at least a 10Mb ISP connection. If you MUST use wireless then you really should use 802.11n in the 5GHz band. Remember, wireless is a convenience and good for your MOBILE devices to access non-bandwidth intensive content. Not everyone is capable of streaming dependable HD via wireless, yet. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. USB Wi-Fi Adapter Does its job! By Will The Thrill This proprietary device is THE only device, as proclaimed by Toshiba, that will work with any Toshiba player that requires an adapter to wirelessly stream the internet to watch movies via Netflix, Blockbuster, and VuDu, and play music from Pandora. This is purely an optional piece since your Blu-ray player should have an Ethernet port on the rear panel. It connects without a problem if you follow the directions! Word to the wise, Follow the directions! 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Easy set-up By Leland S. Craig Easy to set-up and it works great with the Bluray player. Wasn't very happy that Toshiba requires a proprietary network adapter. That being said there were no drivers to install and no compatibility issues. It worked great out of the box. Shop around when buying the adapter because prices varied across the net. See all 14 customer reviews...

Most helpful customer reviews 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Not Great By Stephen I got the Sony UWA-BR100 for my mid 70 year old parents when I updated their TV/home entertainment system. My goal was to simplify the system and have them use as few remote controls as possible. I had just installed a Netgear wireless N router in their upstairs office. The signal with the Sony adapter gave 2 bars reception with the device plugged directly into the TV 3 bars with the device plugged into the USB extension outlet and the reader on top of the TV cabinet. My parents found navigating the Sony menu to get to Netflix very confusing. I found that the poor reception would cause streaming issues. I knew that my folks wanted Netflix, but would never use it if they couldn't easily figure out how it worked. I ended up installing a Roku player into a separate HDMI input. I got four bars of reception with the Roku device inside the component cabinet and noticeably faster response loading Netflix movies. My parents could easily navigate the Roku remote. The price of this device is too high for what it is, and what it delivers. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Does what it's supposed to do. By Bob I bought this to be used with my sony bluray player and it does a fine job of connecting to the wireless. No problems here. 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Worked very well By Michael A. Bynack I bought the UWA-BR100 Wireless adapter to go with a Sony BluRay player. I tried two other wireless adapters with the BluRay, but discovered that we had to have this specific type and model to make it work. The adapter worked exactly like it was supposed to. As soon as I plugged it in and started the BluRay it came up to the configuration page and allowed me to enter the access codes for my home WiFi. The reception on the unit is very good and it loads faster than the Netflix on our Wii. I'm a little disappointed in Sony for requiring you to purchase a separate piece to connect to the wireless LAN. See all 25 customer reviews...

The Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player combines high quality images with enhanced networking functions. Continuing its commitment to producing products that stress ease of use, the 2009 line of Blu-ray Disc players continue to incorporate VIERA Link, allowing the consumer to operate their audio/video components, via HDMI, with one remote. And, in keeping with Panasonic’s pledge to reduce the planet’s carbon footprint, the new Blu-ray players have been designed to reduce power consumption. Developed in collaboration with Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, this high image processing technology reproduces clear, vivid colors that are faithful to the original film. Recognizing that audio is important to the overall entertainment experience, this Blu-ray Disc player features a high definition audio decoder (Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio Essential) to take advantage of the exceptionally high quality 7.1 channel surround sound now integrated in Blu-ray Discs. Experience Movies Like Never BeforeThe DMP-BD60 includes an SD Memory card slot and USB slot, making it easy for the consumer to view and share both digital still images and HD video recorded with an HD camcorder in the AVCHD format. In order to produce the ultimate picture quality, the Panasonic’s DMP-BD60 Blu-ray players employs high precision 4:4:4 signal technology, which working in tandem with PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the horizontal direction, to compliment vertical direction processing. P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD) is another technology that contributes to the superior picture quality of the Blu-ray players. P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel. Panasonic’s Blu-ray players further utilize 16-level motion detection to categorize the image motion of each pixel into one of 16 levels; diagonal processing to detect diagonals and correct the pixels accordingly; 1080p up-conversion to up-convert content recorded in the 480i/p or 720p format to 1080p. The Blu-ray players also provide 1080/24p output, thereby reproducing cinema images from a Blu-ray Disc and DVD in their original 24p form with no need for conversion. This allows the user to enjoy cinema images in the same format used in cinema with a 1080/24p compatible TV. Complimenting the HD audio codecs this Blu-ray player features 96kHz surround re-master, a function that enhances the sound quality of CDs and other sources, and even improves the quality of the multi-channel audio data on Blu-ray Discs and DVDs. ENERGY STAR Rated In order to obtain a reduction in power consumption the Panasonic DMP-BD60 uses Auto Power Stand-By, a function that automatically turns off the player when you return to TV operation using the VIERA Link menu. In addition, the Stand-by Power Save automatically turns off the player’s Quick Start function. When VIERA is turned on, Quick Start also turns on. In addition, the development of the UniPhier single chip LSI makes it possible to pack an entire video signal processing circuit onto a single chip. This helps lower power consumption, reduces the number of parts needed and allows for a more compact design. In fact, the DMP-BD60 consumes 16% less power in standby mode than last year’s model, the DMP-BD35. Most helpful customer reviews 857 of 869 people found the following review helpful. More Than Blu By Chris Boylan With the BD60, Panasonic adds VIERA Cast online content access to their previous entry-level model, the DMP-BD35. You would think this makes an excellent Blu-ray Player even excellenter (yes, I know that's not a word), and it does. The BD60 excels in its Blu-ray Disc playback and is very good at DVD upconversion as well, passing difficult tests like the HQV benchmark discs with flying colors (as well as looking good on real movies). The BD60 can decode all of the latest surround codecs (including DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD) to PCM over HDMI or it can stream these to a compatible receiver in their native formats. Also, if past Panasonic players are any indication, the BD60 should prove to be among the best at disc compatibility, something which has plagued many players from other brands. But there are still a few drawbacks with the BD60 that keep it from getting 5 stars: * Speed: the BD60 is not quite as fast to load discs as the Samsung BD-P3600 or the LG BD300, though it is faster than last year's Samsung models. (12/03/09 update - this is about 20% faster with the 2.0 firmware and above) * Limited online content: YouTube on a Blu-ray player is cool, but it doesn't compare to Netflix online streaming in terms of quality and selection of content (Netflix is available on LG and Samsung players). Amazon's On-Demand streaming service has been announced for VIERA Cast but is not yet available (update: it is available now). The good news is that VIERA Cast can be enhanced with more content over time without requiring the purchase of a new player. * Less than integrated operation: moving between Blu-ray and VIERA Cast online content is not as seamless as it could be. You have to completely stop playback and exit back to the Panasonic player's splash screen in order to get to the VIERA Cast "home screen" to access online content. And what's with that annoying BEEP when you go through the VIERA Cast menus? * SD card requirement: Like its predecessors, the BD60 lacks on-board storage so you'll need to add an SD or SDHC card to enjoy BD-Live content. Panasonic at least could have thrown in a 1GB or 2GB SD card in the box. Also, while the BD60 adds a USB port to the front panel, it does not support DivX or Xvid video playback so this limits the USB port's usefulness. A USB storage device connected to the BD60's USB port can only be used for playback of MP3 music files and viewing of JPEG digital images. If your primary goal is to get a reliable, high performance Blu-ray/DVD player then none of the above should really matter to you (except possibly the operation speed, which is really about average as far as the current players go) and you should strongly consider the BD60. But if you're more interested in viewing content online as well as on those shiny silver discs, then you might want to wait to see what else VIERA Cast has to offer over the coming months. Or get the best of all possible worlds by buying the BD60 for Blu-ray and DVD and picking up a Roku box just for online streaming. In terms of differences between the BD60 and the step-up DMP-BD80 model, the main enhancements in the BD80 are multi-channel analog output (for compatibility with older non-HDMI receivers), Divx playback, vibration isolating feet and "High Clarity Audio" which allows you to disable the analog video processing if you're using HDMI for the video signal, thereby (theoretically at least) improving overall sound quality. If these features are not essential, then save yourself some money and get the BD60 instead. 12/03/09 Update: Some owners of the BD60, BD70V and BD80 have reported a random freeze or pause in playback while watching Blu-ray Discs. While we never saw it during our review of the BD60 and BD80, we did see it on the DMP-BD70V (review available on Big Picture Big Sound web site). Panasonic released firmware version 2.2 this week to

Dolby TrueHD and dts HD- 7.1 Analog: In the past, most audio codecs used compression that actually removes some sound data to transmit audio from the disc to the audio circuitry. This means that what you hear is a subset of the original audio. However, newer formats allow the audio to be compressed, but not discarded, allowing the original audio to come through once it has been decoded. This player allows you to stream the audio out via HDMI to a capable receiver or through analog 7.1 outputs for maximum compatibility with high end receivers. Weiss There seems to be a lack of reviews online for the new Sony 560 and Panasonic 80 Blu-ray players. So I purchased both of these Blu-ray players from Amazon, mainly becuase I wanted to do a critical, side by side comparison of all features and the audio and video quality. It wasn't a professional test-based comparison, just flipping back and forth between these players and my Samsung BD-UP5000 Blu-ray/HD DVD player on my Sony 52" Bravia LCD and studying the image with a critical eye. (I got 3 copies of the Braveheart Blu-ray to do this). Here's what I discovered: Video Quality: Pretty much a dead tie. Both players had rich, dark blacks. Video noise (smoothness) of the pictures was so close that I couldn't tell which I was watching most of the time. Sharpness was the same. Both pictures had good "3D pop". I wouldn't be surprised if both players used the same chipset. (By the way, the Samsung uses the Reon HQV chip, and while it looked a bit "smoother" by comparison, a tiny bit of the sharpness and detail shown on the Sony and Panasonic was missing on the Samsung. Also the Samsung has a very slight cyan cast to the blacks and the overall picture.) Audio Quality: I think the Panasonic wins here, but only by a slim margin. Panasonic touts this player as a "high clarity audio" Blu-ray player and it does sound sweet through my Onkyo TS-SR805 receiver, on my Paradigm Monitor 11 speakers. Again, this conclusion is based only on the DolbyHD sountrack on the Braveheart Blu-ray. I'm going to do more serious listening, but I think the Panasonic will still prove better, audio-wise, with any source material. Audio Formats: Both of these players will Bitstream or PCM output the new HD audio formats. This means that if your receiver doesn't decode them, the player will. Or vice-versa. Some people say pre-amps/receivers do a better job at decoding than BD players do, but I guess that depends on your gear. The Panasonic DMP-BD80 sure sounds good, and I couldn't hear a decoding difference between it or my receiver. With the Sony, I think the receiver may have sounded a touch better, but that might have been in my head. Speed and Handling: No question about it, the Sony beats the Panasonic hands down. This new Panasonic is no faster than last year's model it replaced, the 55. Everything about the Panasonic is slow...load times, react times when buttons are pressed, or when skipping chapters. The Sony 560 is about the same as the PS3. Every cloud has a silver lining, and the Panasonic DOES give you time to make a cup of tea while your disc is loading! Another little thing about the Panasonic that I don't like is the size (width) of the disc tray...it's the same size or a hair bigger than the disc itself (instead of being smaller like most players) so it's very hard to grab the disc. This sounds like a little niggle, but try it and see. It will drive you nuts every time you try to remove a disc...you'll end up dropping them back onto the tray if you're not extremely careful. Remote Controls: They're about the same...both very flimsy and cheaply made. Put a gun to my head and I'll say the Panasonic's remote is a little heavier and has larger buttons that are a little better laid out. The Sony 560 is drawing fire for this because it doesn't have an eject/drawer open button on the remote. This is a silly complaint...correct me if I'm wrong, but you almost have to be standing in front of the player to put a disc in or take a disc out anyway, right?!?!?! So what's the big deal about having to press the "open" button on the player? Serious remote-picky people have a Harmony remote anyway. Other Convenience Features: Neither of these players has Netflix built in, I guess that's a big deal now. Unless they can steam full-quality 1080P (without pauses, subject to my ISP speed) I could care less about that. The reason I have 3
